Cricket World Cup matchday 16: Archer looking to leave his mark on West Indies

England fast bowler Mark Wood is a fitness doubt, however.

All eyes will be on Jofra Archer as England look to make it three wins from four against the West Indies.

Had things panned out differently the Barbados-born paceman could easily have been lining up against Eoin Morgan's side rather than for them, and his appearance in the blue of England lends the game an extra edge.

The Windies made late overtures to win him back before he committed himself and now they will be going all out to prove they are doing fine without the 23-year-old.

Above all, both sides will be praying the rain stays away after India's clash with New Zealand became the latest to fall foul of the weather, with the inclement conditions and a sodden Trent Bridge outfield leading to a fourth abandonment of the competition.

Pace bowling is set to be the order of the day but two of the briskest bowlers around have injury doubts hanging over them. England's Mark Wood, who has bowled the fastest ball of the tournament at 95.6mph, has been battling soreness in his troublesome left ankle and will undergo a late fitness test. Jamaican quick Andre Russell is also waiting on a green light as he looks to manage his chronic knee problems.

Tweet of the day

The former England captain did not count on the elements having an impact yet again.

Quote of the day

“I'm sure Sheldon is looking to salute. I don't think it will change, that's just Sheldon. I guess Trevor will just have learn to accept it.''”
- Jason Holder

The West Indies captain does not expect Sheldon Cottrell to ditch his theatrical military celebration despite England coach Trevor Bayliss admitting it left him cold.

Today: England v West Indies at Southampton

One to watch

England are highly unlikely to risk Wood if there are any doubts over his fitness but captain Eoin Morgan revealed Jos Buttler will be available to play and keep wicket after sitting out the second innings against Bangladesh with a right hip complaint. Buttler followed up a century against Pakistan last week with a typically rapid half-century in the win over Bangladesh. If he can continue his rich vein of form then it would augur well for England.
