Andrew Strauss: 'England are miles behind top teams in the world'

Andrew Strauss feels that England are well behind the other top teams in the world in their approach to one-day cricket after crashing out of the World Cup.

Andrew Strauss has claimed that England are "miles" behind the top teams in the world in one-day cricket following their humiliating exit from the World Cup.

The Three Lions' exit at the group stage was confirmed as they slipped to a 15-run defeat to Bangladesh at Adelaide, their fourth loss in five games at the competition.

The former England captain feels that the team's approach to the format is nowhere near the level that it should be compared to the performances of Australia, India and South Africa.

Strauss told Sky Sports News: "We've all been surprised by how quickly the game has moved on in this World Cup. Players scoring at six or seven runs an over in the middle overs... that wasn't happening 12 months ago.

"It seems like there's been this incredible, unstoppable momentum that has been built while England have been stuck behind and are almost going in the opposite direction.

"The England players will say they're trying their absolute best - 'we're not as confident as we need to be' - it's horrible to watch because we're miles away from the top teams."

England play their final game against Afghanistan on Friday.
