Joe Root credits England's tail-end batsmen for leading the recovery on day three of the first Test against India.

Joe Root has credited England's tail-end batsman for helping the hosts recover on a difficult third day of the first Test against India.

The Yorkshire batsman enjoyed a productive partnership with Stuart Broad (47) before combining with James Anderson (23*) to lead England to 352-9 at stumps, and he believes that that those contributions could have a big impact on the game at Trent Bridge.

"We were up against it at a stage and the way the guys came out and played after tea was sensational," Root told Sky Sports News.

"Broady put all the pressure back on them and a lot of credit has to go to Jimmy as well. The way he dealt with that pressure has given us a way back into the game.

"Me and Jimmy have got some good work to do tomorrow so hopefully we'll keep going and keep working on our partnership."

Root will return on Saturday looking for 22 more runs to bring up his fourth Test century.
