Ben Stokes has claimed that England were unlucky not to take control of the second Test against India on a frustrating opening day for the hosts at Lord's.
Despite reducing their rivals to 145-7 at one stage in the afternoon, England were made to regret wasting two opportunities with a new ball as a century from Ajinkya Rahane guided India to 290-9 at stumps.
"We got ourselves in a brilliant position," Stokes told Sky Sports News. "The tail wagged a bit and credit to Rahane, he played a really good knock. You have to give some credit to [Bhuvneshwar] Kumar as well, he seems to hang around.
"I thought we were unfortunate with the amount of play-and-misses and nicks through the slips. Hopefully we can come back and get this one, and the lads can pile it on."
Stokes finished the day with figures of 1-40 from his 17 overs.
