England all-rounder Ben Stokes has said that he has been "overwhelmed" by the support he has received after his costly last over in the World Twenty20 final this afternoon.
Stokes was given the task of bowling at the death against a West Indies side needing 19 to win, but he was slogged for four consecutive sixes as Carlos Brathwaite handed his side the title in style.
Stokes was visibly upset after the match, but took to Twitter to express his pride at having played for England in a World Cup final.
"Overwhelmed by all the support of everyone after a disappointing last over.....So proud to of represented my country in a World Cup final...," he wrote.
"To everyone who has supported us thank you very much you've been awesome...congrats to the West Indies on winning a great final."
England captain Eoin Morgan insisted after the match that his side's batting display was the main reason for their defeat.
