Danny Briggs "disappointed" by England exclusion

Hampshire spinner Danny Briggs admits that he learned the ruthlessness of international cricket when being dropped from the England one-day and Twenty20 squads.

Danny Briggs has admitted that he was disappointed to be omitted from the latest England squads after learning the ruthlessness of international cricket.

The Hampshire spinner was overlooked for the ongoing tour to West Indies and the Twenty20 World Cup, having been part of the one-day setup against Australia.

In his only match Down Under Briggs went for 54 runs from his four overs, and the 22-year-old realised the hard way that players can quickly be dropped from the team if they waste their chance to impress.

However, he is determined to bowl his way back into England contention with a prolific domestic season.

"I was disappointed, but I didn't perform in the one chance I had," Briggs told BBC Radio Solent. "It was frustrating, it was hard with how The Ashes went and then that carried on into one-day cricket.

"You have to learn from every experience, it was difficult but you have to learn and improve for next time. It's not disappointing not to perform in that one game. You have to perform, but it sends a clear message to me to perform with Hampshire to train hard.

"I only had one chance and I needed to take that. That is fair enough, it just makes this summer more important. If I can perform for Hampshire and contribute then that gives me a chance to get back in at some point. You learn from these things and I will try and improve."

Uncapped Lancashire left-armer Stephen Parry and James Tredwell are England's specialist slow-bowling options in the current squad, while Joe Root and Moeen Ali can provide part-time spin.
