England bowler Stuart Broad admits that he is "desperate" to return to action after recovering from surgery on his knee.

Stuart Broad has revealed that he is "desperate" to return for England as soon as possible after recovering from knee surgery.

The seamer needed an operation on his patella tendon in September after finally finding the time to treat a long-standing problem, and he is hopeful of a successful comeback in the tri-series with Australia and India ahead of the World Cup.

"It was quite swollen for a couple of weeks. The swelling was probably the hardest thing to get rid of. A lot of ice, a lot of rest," Broad told Sky Sports News. "But I must have bowled nearly 100 overs now. I went to South Africa for two weeks with the ECB bowling camp and it has come on really well.

"I feel fresh, I am desperate to play straight away.

"Obviously I have not spoken to the new captain and coach about that, but I'll certainly be putting my hand up for selection."

Recently appointed one-day international captain Eoin Morgan will lead England against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 16.
