Alastair Cook has revealed that ECB officials are in Sri Lanka to continue talks with Kevin Pietersen regarding the batsman's England future.
Although Cook appeared keen to see Pietersen return to action in the near future, he admitted that there are still "issues" that need to be resolved.
The Test captain said: "I did have a meeting with Kev and I have been involved in meetings. Clearly the issues haven't been resolved and that is why he is not available for selection at the moment.
"Time hopefully will be a healer and we will be able to move on.
"At this present time the issues haven't been resolved and he can't be selected."
Former captain Andrew Strauss confirmed that he received an apology from Pietersen for the texts the Surrey star reportedly sent to players in the South Africa squad.
