England slump to 155 against India in third ODI

No England batsman scores more than 39 as the tourists struggle to 155 all out in the third one-day international against India.

England failed to post a menacing total for India to chase in the third one-day international in Ranchi this morning.

The tourists didn't have a single batsman record a half-century as they struggled to 155 all out in 42.2 overs.

It was a solid enough start from Alastair Cook and Ian Bell but the former went with the score at 24-0 when he failed to make contact with Shami Ahmed's delivery and was given out lbw.

In came Kevin Pietersen and he also looked comfortable until he went for 17 - the same score Cook managed - off the bowling off Ishant Sharma. Pietersen seemed astonished by the decision and replays showed that the ball clipped his thigh pad, not the bat.

Bell (25) was gone moments after by edging Bhuvneshwar Kumar before Eoin Morgan and Joe Root steadied England towards 100.

They couldn't reach three figures without losing another wicket, however, as Morgan (10) attempted a trademark reverse sweep, only to mistime it straight into the palms of Yuvraj Singh.

Both Samit Patel and Craig Kieswetter then went for ducks off Ravindra Jadeja before Root and Tim Bresnan stopped the flow of wickets.

The pair reached 145-6 when Root (39) edged Sharma and India skipper MS Dhoni took the catch at full stretch to his right.

Bresnan (25) was gone a moment later when Ravichandran's Ashwin's off-spinner turned more than expected and clattered into middle stump.

Tailenders James Tredwell (4*), Steven Finn (3) and Jade Dernbach (0) could only add a few more to the total before the stumbling innings came to an end.
