England toil in Auckland

England lose four wickets and are left floundering by a dominant New Zealand display on day four of the third Test in Auckland.

England must bat out the final day to avoid defeat in Auckland after a dominant display from New Zealand on day four of the third Test.

New Zealand spent the morning building a daunting lead through Peter Fulton, who reached 110 runs to score his second century of the match with an efficient display.

Brendon McCullum chipped in with a half-century before the hosts eventually declared on 241-6, leaving England to chase a world-record total of 481 to win.

The chase got off to a horrible start as Nick Compton was dismissed for just two runs.

Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott steadied the ship before tea with a resolute display, but the latter eventually fell for 37 runs to the bowling of Neil Wagner.

Cook failed to survive the day as Dean Brownlie stopped the captain in his tracks with a strong catch.

In the final over of the session, night watchman Steven Finn was stumped by the off-spin of Kane Williamson, leaving New Zealand in complete control of the deciding Test.
