England have been dealt a blow ahead of the T20 World Cup after Sam Curran was forced to withdraw through injury.

The seventh staging of the tournament is due to start later this month with England's first game coming against West Indies on October 23.

However, all-rounder Curran will not be involved after sustaining a back problem while representing Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.

Curran had the potential to play an important role for England with a batting average of 18.2 down the order and collecting 16 wickets from as many appearances.

The 23-year-old has been replaced by his elder brother Tom, who has made 30 outings in this format since making his debut in 2017.

Pace bowler Reece Topley has taken the spot of the 26-year-old on the reserve list. body check tags ::
