Former England coach David Lloyd has stated that Alex Hales must be given time to settle into the Test side after being handed his first call-up.
The Nottinghamshire player has been named in the 16-man squad for the forthcoming three-match series against Pakistan, while Adam Lyth has been omitted after struggling with the bat during the Ashes series.
Hales appears to be in pole position to open the batting alongside captain Alastair Cook in the United Arab Emirates, and Lloyd has said that he wants the selectors to give him the opportunity to impress.
"Alex Hales gets the nod, now he is a fine player," Lloyd told Sky Sports News.
"He's played pretty well for Nottinghamshire so he gets a chance. I hope they stick with him and not just have a number of Test matches, a handful, and say 'No, not him, somebody else.' You need to be quite constant."
The first Test against Pakistan begins on October 13.
