Sam Robson insists that missing out on a central contract has not had an impact on his England ambitions.

Sam Robson has insisted that missing out on a central contract has not had an impact on his determination to become a key player for England.

The Middlesex batsman played all seven Test matches this summer, but was omitted from the list of players to receive central contracts from the England and Wales Cricket Board last month.

However, Robson remains confident that he can prove he is the right man to open the batting with Alastair Cook for the foreseeable future.

"It's not a problem or a limit at all. I know what I've got to do. There's a Lions tour to South Africa in January, so if I'm selected on that, with no Test cricket for the next six or seven months, hopefully I could score some runs and put in some strong performances," the 25-year-old told reporters.

"Then we can go from there. It's just been a great summer for me to play all seven Tests and to feel comfortable in the environment, and to win against India was massive, and I'm looking forward to kicking on."

Robson has scored one half-century and reached three figures on one occasion in his 11 Test innings.
