Joe Root says that he will never forget his first England century on his home ground at Headingley.

England centurion Joe Root has said that he is disappointed with his dismissal on the second day of the second Test match against New Zealand at Headingley.

The 22-year-old became the first Yorkshireman to bring up his maiden ton on his home ground, but was removed late on after he edged Trent Boult's delivery to Brendan McCullum.

"It's pretty special [scoring a first century at Headingley]," he told Sky Sports News. "It's a great atmosphere here, I really enjoyed it and just got lost in the moment. I will always remember it.

"It was disappointing to get out when I did. It was a terrible shot and it was the first ball of the new ball. It almost left them a chance to get back in the game.

"In cricket you don't want to give them a sniff and I'm obviously disappointed that I did that. I play to win and try to contribute as much as I can towards the team."

England finished the day on 336-7.
