Surrey chief executive Richard Gould has insisted that the county club are keen to retain the services of former England batsman Kevin Pietersen.
The 33-year-old was dropped from the England squad on Tuesday and if he is released from his central contract with the ECB, his Surrey deal will also come to an end.
However, Gould has revealed that Pietersen would like to remain a Surrey player.
"He wants to play for Surrey and we want him to play here," Gould told Surrey TV.
"We know that he really wants to continue playing for Surrey and he knows we are really keen for him to continue doing so. Over the next week or so we will work together to try and make sure that happens.
"We need to make sure we can offer a KP a good financial package as well as the knowledge that he belongs to a club that really values him and wants to see him play."
Pietersen joined Surrey from Hampshire in 2010.
