Jonathan Trott has admitted that New Zealand made life difficult for England on day one for the first Test at Lord's.
The hosts had battled to 160-4 with 10 overs left when play was abandoned due to bad weather.
"I don't think we were overcautious," Trott, who was bowled out for 39, told BBC Sport. "If you add on about 20 or 30 extra runs for the slow outfield it would look a lot better day, but New Zealand made it a very tough for us.
"We have to be careful not analyse everything, New Zealand were pretty good and we combated that pretty well."
England will resume play on Friday with Joe Root (25) and Jonny Bairstow (3) at the crease.
