Luke Wright: 'Afghanistan will be a big test'

Luke Wright insists that England will not underestimate associate member side Afghanistan in their T20 World Cup opener.

Luke Wright has insisted that England will not take Afghanistan lightly in their World Twenty20 opener on Friday.

Stuart Broad's defending champions begin their tournament in Colombo against the Group A minnows, who lost their opening match to India by a respectable 23-run margin on Wednesday.

Despite the odds being heavily in England's favour, Wright has stressed that the Afghans are well capable of causing an upset.

"We're under no illusions that they're a very dangerous side and they pushed India close last night, so it's going to be a big test," the Sussex all-rounder told Sky Sports News.

"We're going to have to be at our best, but if we are at our best we can get a good result. You only need one or two players to come off in Twenty20, that's why it's so exciting.

"You can see how hard Afghanistan's batters are going at the ball and if one of those guys has their night it's going to be very tough, but obviously it's up to us to try and put our plans in place to try and stop that happening."

England beat both Australia and Pakistan in their warm-up fixtures.
