England lead India by 193 after a strong day at the crease but the hosts launch a fightback in the final two sessions of the third day in Kolkata.

England lead India by 193 runs after another strong day at the crease on the third day of the third Test in Kolkata.

The visitors carried their impressive form from yesterday into the morning session as captain Alastair Cook managed to progress past 150 runs, while Jonathan Trott surpassed a Test fifty to keep England in full control.

India's spinners struggled to cause damage in the early session but the dismissal of Cook was a boost for the hosts as Virat Kholi managed to run out the 27-year-old in bizarre circumstances.

Cook decided against running for a single and as he turned to ground, he lifted the bat to move out of the way of the ball, which crashed into the stumps and ended the captain's time at the crease.

Kevin Pietersen took on the responsibility of increasing England's run-rate and the batsman managed to reach fifty but his time at the crease was cut short when Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed the controversial player for lbw.

India started to take control in the last two sessions of the day as wickets began to fall for England, with Ian Bell bowled out for five and Samit Patel for 33.

Matt Prior and Graeme Swann remain at the crease for the visitors on the close of day three, which ended on 509-6.
