A knock of 99 from Alex Hales helped England on their way to recording a seven-wicket win over the West Indies at Trent Bridge this afternoon.
Opener Dwayne Smith was the highest run scorer for the Windies courtesy of a contribution of 70. However, Smith's next three partners failed to get beyond single figures as the tourists looked to be heading for a score of around 130.
Following Smith's dismissal, Dwayne Bravo (54 not out) and Kieron Pollard (23 not out) came to crease to help their side post a total of 172 runs from their 20 overs.
England's reply started slowly when Craig Kieswetter caught by Smith off the bowling of Ravi Rampul for just three runs.
That brought Ravi Bopara to the crease and between him and opener Hales, they put on a record batting partnership for an England duo at Twenty20 level.
Hales, playing on his home turf, went on to break Eoin Morgan's record of 80 runs by an England international. However, Hales was left stranded on 99 runs when he was clean bowled by Rampul.
Bopara soon followed for 59 runs which left Morgan and Jos Buttler needing two runs from three balls.
The batting duo went on to achieve that feat with two balls to spare, meaning that the Windies end their tour of England without a victory in any format of the game.
