India win the first Twenty20 international against England by five wickets.

India have bounced back from their Test series defeat to England with a convincing five-wicket victory in the first Twenty20 international.

Michael Lumb was the first man to walk having been dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin in the third over for just one run.

However, Alex Hales and Luke Wright built a steady partnership that saw the former reach his half-century in blistering fashion.

Yuvraj Singh then took three quick wickets to swing the momentum in favour of his team, as Ajinkya Rahane caught Wright (34) before Hales (56) saw his bails removed.

Captain Eoin Morgan (5) was caught at the boundary trying to slog sweep that spewed high into the Pune night.

Samit Patel (24) and Jos Buttler (33) played vital roles down the order for the visitors, who posted 157 from their 20 overs.

India made a great start as Gautam Gambhir and Rahane set about chasing down the total.

Tim Bresnan eventually made inroads into the hosts' batting lineup to claim the wicket of Gambhir (16), with Rahane (19) quickly following him to leave India on 44/2.

Yuvraj Singh (21) and Virat Kohli (38) provided a vital mid-innings partnership before Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni guided India into a comfortable position.

A brilliant piece of fielding by Morgan sent Raina on his way in the penultimate over, but it proved to be of little consequence, as skipper Dhoni knocked off the winning runs.
