England win the series in India for the first time in 28 years after drawing the final Test in Nagpur and claiming a 2-1 victory.

England have recorded their first Test series victory in India for 28 years after drawing the final Test in Nagpur.

Captain Alastair Cook has steered his team to the historic win over the four-Test campaign but it was Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott who secured the draw for the visitors at the crease on the final day of the Test today.

The batsmen both gained centuries on the poor pitch and they were able to edge closer to the draw after reaching lunch unbeaten but Trott eventually fell for 143 in the second session of the day at the hands of Ravichandran Ashwin.

Despite Trott's dismissal, Bell continued on with new partner Joe Root and he managed to rack up 116 runs, while Root finished the Test with 20 unbeaten.

While Trott and Bell clinched the draw for the visitors, the standout player over the campaign was arguably Cook, who became the youngest player at 27 to surpass 7,000 Test runs and also grabbed the title of the first England player to claim 19 Test centuries.

England clinched the series 2-1, while India's defeat means that they have lost a series on home soil for the first time in eight years.
