England beat the West Indies by nine wickets in the second Test match in Grenada to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

England have won away from home for the first time since December 2012 after triumphing by nine wickets in the second Test match against the West Indies.

The victory hands England a 1-0 lead in the three-match series and allows them to celebrate an overseas win once again following a frustrating run of performances since beating India in Kolkata over two years ago.

An impressive bowling performance from James Anderson (4-43) earlier in the final day proved to be key as the hosts collapsed from 224-2 to 282-8 before the lunch break.

Moeen Ali, who claimed figures of 3-51, wrapped up the Windies' second innings with the wickets of Denesh Ramdin (28) and Shannon Gabriel (0), and the total of 307 set England a target of 143 for victory.

The condition of the pitch in Grenada ensured that a Windies fightback never looked likely, even after Jonathan Trott (0) had dragged onto his stumps off the bowling of Gabriel with just two runs on the board.

Devendra Bishoo thought that he had made another breakthrough when Gary Ballance (81*) edged him to first slip, but Devon Smith could not hang on as England's in-form number three enjoyed some luck on two occasions, with the same fielder putting down another catch late in the chase.

It soon became a comfortable pursuit for the tourists as Alastair Cook (59*) recorded his second half-century of the match on the way to securing a win which he will hope relieves some of the pressure on his shoulders.

The two sides will now travel to Bridgetown for the start of the third Test on Friday, with England knowing that a series win will be clinched if they avoid defeat.
