England captain Andrew Strauss has revealed that he expects the third Test match with India at Edgbaston to take place, despite security concerns following riots in Birmingham.

Both sets of players were asked to remain in their hotel rooms last night as violence escalated in the city centre.

However, 34-year-old Strauss insists that England are focusing fully on the Test match, which begins tomorrow morning.

"It's for the authorities to decide if it's unsafe to go ahead but we have no indication that's the case," said Strauss.

"We've got to prepare to play a game of cricket. It's for other people to deal with what's going on at the moment - and if we can take people's attention away from what's going on that's a good thing."

Reports have suggested that more rioting in Birmingham tonight could lead to the match being postponed, mirroring the decision made by the Football Association, who earlier called off England's scheduled friendly with Holland.
