India begin their fightback against England's 400 all out, ending day two of the fourth Test on 185-1.

India have begun their fightback against England in the fourth Test, closing day two on 146-1 after the tourists were all out for 400.

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler were back at the crease as the day's play resumed with England at 288-5, but Stokes was only able to add six more runs to his tally before being sent back to the pavilion in just the third over of the day when he was adjudged to have edged to slip after a review.

Chris Woakes (11) and Adil Rashid (4) offered little in the way of contribution - both caught by the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja - but Buttler did find a profitable partnership with Jake Ball, who struck four fours as part of his 31 off 60 balls until Ravichandran Ashwin claimed his sixth scalp of the innings.

Buttler eventually fell for 76, with Ashwin again on hand to take the wicket as Buttler attempted to replicate his powerful boundary from the previous over.

In reply, India went on the offensive and were seemingly content to settle for singles as tea approached, although the tourists were able to claim the early wicket of KL Rahul (24) as Ali's perfect ball found the stumps.

Cheteshwar Pujara (47*) joined Murali Vijay (70*) and upped the pace, Vijay hitting two straight boundaries as the hosts ended the day in confident style, trailing England by 254 with nine wickets remaining.
