India require 77 runs to win the first Test after they bowl out England for 406.

India are closing in on a series lead and require 77 runs to win the first Test going into lunch after ending England's innings at 406 all out.

The visitors resumed play on 340-5, leading the match by 10 points, and added just 16 runs before Matt Prior slammed his shot straight into the hands of bowler Pragyan Ojha for a simple catch.

It took just nine runs before Ojha took his second wicket on the day as Alastair Cook's nine hours and 17 minutes at the crease came to end following a smart bowl from the Indian to take the England opener for 176.

Stuart Broad was the next in line to fall 13 runs later, as he offered a simple catch to Umesh Yadav.

The hosts took another two quickfire wickets as Graeme Swann and Tim Bresnan were bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin and Zaheer Khan respectively, with Ajinkya Rahane catching off the latter's dismissal.

India now require just 77 runs to take the first Test after lunch.
