India pick up three more wickets before tea to reduce New Zealand to 78-7 but the hosts remain in charge with a lead of 379.

India have continued their fightback in Auckland to prevent New Zealand from making further progress on day three of the first Test match.

An enthralling first session at Eden Park saw 10 wickets fall and the hosts returned after the lunch interval on 15-4, leading by 316 runs.

Ross Taylor (41) continued to battle against the conditions and the Indian bowlers, who were still able to find movement on a pitch that offered plenty to both teams.

Mohammed Shami made a breakthrough early in the session to dismiss Corey Anderson (2) for two and reduce the hosts to 25-5.

BJ Watling arrived at the crease to calm proceedings down alongside Taylor but runs were difficult to come by as MS Dhoni's attack continued to ask questions.

India struck once again when Taylor played a loose cut shot to Ajinkya Rahane, who took a diving catch at gully to hand Zaheer Khan a crucial wicket.

The Black Caps found themselves seven wickets down as Tim Southee (14*), looking to clip Ravindra Jadeja through mid-wicket, picked out Cheteshwar Pujara on the leg-side.

Watling (11*) and Ish Sodhi (0*) were the two men left at the crease as New Zealand headed in at tea on 78-7, leading by 379 runs.
