A five-wicket haul from Ravichandran Ashwin and an unbeaten 63 from Cheteshwar Pujara have moved India into a strong position after day two of the first Test with South Africa.
South Africa began day two on 28-2, but Ashwin made light work of their batting lineup, ending with figures of 5-51 off 24 overs, while Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra added the other five wickets as South Africa were bowled out for 184, still trailing India by 17 runs.
Only AB de Villiers (63) recorded a half-century during South Africa's innings, but despite the early dismissal of Shikhar Dhawan, India's top order soon showed that it was possible to bat on a pitch that had seen 21 wickets fall in five sessions.
Murali Vijay hit 47 from 105 deliveries before falling to Imran Tahir, but Pujara ended the day unbeaten on 63 as India moved into a 142-run advantage ahead of day three after reaching 125-2 at the close.
