India take control of the second Test match with South Africa, ending day one on 80-0 after bowling the Proteas out for 214 in Bangalore.

India have established a clear advantage against South Africa after day one of the second Test in Bangalore, ending Saturday's play with just a 134-run deficit.

The home side won the toss and elected to field, and although AB de Villiers made 85 off just 105 deliveries, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets apiece to decimate the South African batting lineup.

Opener Dean Elgar also hit 38 for the tourists, but his effort failed to help his side to an imposing score as they look to respond from their setback in the opening Test.

South Africa would have hoped for early wickets when India took to the crease, but Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan remained in the middle at the close of play.

Dhawan contributed 45 off 62 balls, with Vijay playing the support role with 28 off 73, as India reached 80-0, leaving South Africa with it all to do on Sunday.
