India have strengthened their position over South Africa after day three of the fourth Test in Delhi, moving into a lead of 403 runs.
At the close of play on Friday, the hosts bowled the Proteas out for 121 to give themselves an advantage of 213, but while they ended the day in total control, they endured a tense opening two hours.
South Africa bowler Morne Morkel struck three times to reduce India to 57-4, with Rohit Sharma departing for a golden duck after Murali Vijay had made just three.
Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara made 21 and 28 respectively before their dismissals, but the day belonged to Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, who effectively took the game away from their opponents.
Kohli has struck 10 fours during an unbeaten knock of 83, while Rahane has provided excellent support, with 52 being made off 152 deliveries.
India ended the day having only reached 190-4 off 81 overs, but despite their low run-rate, they have laid the foundations to post a lead of over 500 on Sunday before attempting to bowl out South Africa for a second time.
