New Zealand have set India a target of 315 runs to win the third one-day international in Auckland.
Martin Guptill was the star of the show for the Kiwis as he scored 111 off 129 balls and shared 153-run second-wicket partnership with Kane Williamson, who made 65 runs.
Guptill completed his century in 123 deliveries, hitting 11 fours and one six in the process, but fell soon after to Ravindra Jadeja when he found Ajinkya Rahane at the boundary in the 38th over.
It was 224-4 at the time and India then began to wrestle some control of the contest, although productive knocks from Luke Ronchi (38) and Tim Southee (27) helped New Zealand get past the 300-run mark before they lost their final wicket on the last ball of their innings.
Mohammed Shami and Jadeja took two wickets each for India.
