Sri Lanka have taken two further wickets and trail New Zealand by just 48 runs at tea as they close in on levelling the series on day three of the second Test.
The home side have reached 183-5, with Kane Williamson unbeaten on 48, but both Brendon McCullum (22) and Jimmy Neesham (19) fell in the session, leaving just BJ Watling (14*) to bat before the visitors get through to the tail.
Williamson continued to play some superb strokes but McCullum fell LBW to Dhammika Prasad, who got the ball to nip back on a full length, before Neesham became Nuwan Pradeep's third victim of the innings.
Watling has played some stylish strokes during his brief stint at the crease, and he will hope that he and Williamson can build a big partnership in the final session.
