Essex have confirmed that they have signed Monty Panesar on loan from Sussex for the rest of the season.

Sussex revealed on Monday that they were ready to offload the England spinner following an investigation into a recent incident in Brighton where the 31-year-old was arrested for allegedly urinating on a nightclub bouncer.

"We are delighted to welcome Monty to the club for the remainder of the season" Essex coach Paul Grayson told the team's official website.

"He is a world-class spinner and we are confident that he will have a positive impact on the team."

Panesar is expected to feature for his new side on Tuesday in their LV= County Championship match against Northamptonshire.
