Lancashire have announced that former captain Mark Chilton has joined the club's coaching team.
The news comes after Glen Chapple was handed the reins over the first team at Old Trafford until the end of the season.
Changes have been made to the coaching setup following the England and Wales Cricket Board's decision to appoint Peter Moores as the international head coach.
Chilton said: "I am thrilled at the prospect of returning to LCCC. We have an exciting crop of emerging young players and I am looking forward to working with them."
Lancashire cricket director Mike Watkinson added: "Following the recent changes in our coaching structure, it was vital that we had some continuity to enable us to carry on our progress.
"Mark has been doing some part-time work with the professional squad around his school commitments and has made a significant impact on the group."
Chilton, whose focus will be on the club's second XI, scored 9,556 runs in 196 first-class matches for the county.
