Centurion Misbah-ul-Haq leads Pakistan's attack as they reach stumps on day one of the second Test against England on 282-4 in Dubai.

An unbeaten 102 from Misbah-ul-Haq has left Pakistan in a commanding position after day one of the second Test against England in Dubai.

The 41-year-old and batting partner Asad Shafiq (46*) have pushed Pakistan to 282-4 at stumps following an impressive 104-run partnership.

It took 15 overs for England to find the breakthrough as Moeen Ali dismissed Mohammad Hafeez (19), and Ben Stokes followed up three overs later to send Shoaib Malik (2) back to the pavilion.

Jonny Bairstow contributed to the wicket with an impressive catch after the ball rebounded off his chest at short leg.

After returning from lunch on 85-2, Shan Masood was the next to fall as he edged behind to Jos Buttler off James Anderson's delivery.

The batsman walked off the field on 54 runs, leaving Younis Khan and Misbah to lead the attack, and they managed to carry it out in emphatic fashion with a 93-run partnership before tea.

In the evening session, Mark Wood caused some trouble for the batsmen with his deliveries and his approach eventually paid off when he dismissed Khan for 56.

The 37-year-old failed to claim his 31st Test century as his attempt at a four through fine leg was caught down the leg side by wicket-keeper Buttler.

Despite dismantling Khan, Misbah remained unchecked as he brought up his 50 with a perfectly-timed reverse sweep through third man.

The Pakistan batsman, who broke a bat while trying to avoid a run-out, continued to thrive at the crease as he hit double sixes off Adil Rashid in consecutive balls, the first of which soared into the stands over long-on, while the next was swung down the ground.

Despite receiving the new ball, England were unable to swing the momentum in their direction as Misbah hit a six to bring up 93 runs, leaving him with four balls to get the last seven for a century.

The batsman easily reached the feat in the final over of the day, by taking 14 off four balls from Ali, claiming his first Test 100 against England.

The opening Test in Abu Dhabi resulted in a draw.
