Australia end day three of the third and final Test against South Africa with a healthy lead of 234 runs.

Australia remain in control of the third and final Test against South Africa after their bowlers dominated day three in Cape Town.

Led by Mitchell Johnson (4-42) and Ryan Harris (3-63), Australia backed up their 494 first-innings total by bowling the hosts out for 287.

Alviro Peterson's 53 got South Africa off to a decent start but he never built a solid partnership and the Proteas' innings could have been a lot worse had Faf du Plessis not dug in for 67 runs off 135 balls in the middle order.

Vurnon Philander (37*) and Dale Steyn (28) also stuck around but they were bowled out eight runs short of the total required to avoid the follow-on.

Despite this, Australia decided not to put them into bat again and finished the day healthily on 27-0, with a lead of 234 runs.

Chris Rogers (1*) started cautiously while down the other end David Warner was looking to score quickly and already has four boundaries and 25 runs off 17 balls.
