South Africa's hopes of reaching the World Twenty20 semi-finals have been kept alive with a dramatic two-run victory over New Zealand in Chittagong.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, South Africa made 170-6 before the New Zealanders replied with 168-8 from their 20 overs.

JP Duminy hit an impressive 86 not out for the Proteas, while Hashim Amla chipped in with a knock of 41. However, Faf du Plessis (13) and Albie Morkel (13) were the only other players to make a notable contribution at the crease.

Tim Southee and Corey Anderson took two wickets each for New Zealand, with Kyle Mills and Nathan McCullum also claiming one wicket apiece.

Kane Williamson (51) and Martin Guptill (22) gave the Kiwis a huge boost when it was their turn to bat, but Ross Taylor (62) failed to get the three runs needed from the final ball to hand them the win.

Dale Steyn was in ruthless form with the ball, taking four wickets for the loss of 17 runs. Imran Tahir ended with figures of 2-27 and Albie Morkel took the remaining wicket.
