Dane Piedt claimed three wickets during the afternoon session to reduce Zimbabwe to 165-5 at tea on the first day of their Test against South Africa.

Having resumed on 64-2 after lunch, captain Brendan Taylor picked up a half-century, reaching 60 not out by the end of the session.

Hamilton Masakadza fell just short of the fifty, while Regis Chakabva went for a duck shortly before the interval as Piedt took his first Test match wickets on his debut.

Earlier, Dale Steyn claimed two wickets in the morning session after the hosts had won the toss and elected to bat.
