Arsenal 'want up to four marquee signings this summer'

Arsenal reportedly want to make either three or four marquee signings in the summer transfer window, where a midfielder and striker will be of utmost priority.

Arsenal reportedly hope to bring three or four new statement signings to the club this summer as part of another lavish spending spree.

The Gunners' spending totalled over £200m for the 2023 summer window, as Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and £105m British record signing Declan Rice all touched down in North London.

While Timber's first season with Mikel Arteta's side has been hampered by an ACL injury, both Havertz and Rice have been cornerstones of the Gunners XI amid their push for Premier League stardom.

Ahead of Sunday's blockbuster North London derby with Tottenham Hotspur, the Gunners lead the way by one point over Manchester City and two points over Liverpool, the latter of whom have played an extra game.

However, City's own match in hand means that Arsenal's title fate does not rest with them, as Arteta's side could win all their remaining games but still fall short if the Citizens match that feat.

Midfielder, striker targeted in summer plans

Regardless of Arsenal's title outcome, FootballTransfers claims that Arteta and sporting director Edu have set their sights on bringing at least three and potentially up to four marquee signings to the Emirates for 2024-25.

Thanks to their progression to the last eight of the Champions League, Arsenal's transfer kitty will apparently be bolstered by a whopping £79m, although they must still remain within the remits of Financial Fair Play.

A new midfielder and striker is expected to be of paramount importance to the Gunners, who are thought to be monitoring the likes of Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko amid their search for a new forward.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi and Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes represent two prime midfield targets for Arsenal, who are also expected to pursue a new left-back amid concerns over Oleksandr Zinchenko's form.

In addition, a new goalkeeper must also be sought if Aaron Ramsdale leaves this summer, and the Gunners could also pursue a new right-winger, as Bukayo Saka is currently short of cover and frequently sustains niggles during matches.

Which players could leave Arsenal to fund summer rebuild?

The out-of-favour Ramsdale is just one of several fringe players likely to be axed this summer, as Arsenal will certainly have to boost their coffers through sales before dreaming of another nine-figure spending spree.

Cedric Soares will definitely be on his way out when his contract expires, while Mohamed Elneny should follow suit, and Jorginho's deal has not been extended beyond the end of the season either.

The Italian and Thomas Partey - out of contract in 2025 - could very well stay on for next season, having proven their worth to Arteta at various points this season, but the same cannot be said for Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah.

The trio's home-grown status would work in their favour when it comes to the summer cull, where as many as five loanees could also get the chop, including Kieran Tierney, Marquinhos and Nuno Tavares.

Albert Sambi Lokonga has impressed at Luton Town and might be given another chance, though, but Wrexham's Arthur Okonkwo is due to become a free agent in June and will seemingly not receive an extension to his expiring contract. body check tags ::
