Sussex Sharks have signed Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene for the first half of their 2015 T20 Blast campaign.
The 37-year-old has chosen to play in English county cricket for the first time after not being picked up in the IPL auction.
"His record and his reputation is second to none. He will also bring his leadership and experience," Sussex manager Mark Robinson told the club's official website.
"I'm sure he will be a huge asset to Luke Wright as the new captain, and the whole squad and coaching staff."
Jayawardene has scored more than 11,000 runs in both Test matches and one-day internationals and also has the experience of 170 Twenty20 games under his belt.
He is currently representing Sri Lanka at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
