Chris Froome has moved into second place in the Vuelta a Espana after the fourth stage in the Basque country.
The 27-year-old, Team Sky's lead rider for the tour, finished one minute and four seconds behind the race winner Simon Clarke, of Orica-GreenEdge.
He now trails Katusha's Joaquim RodrÃguez by just one second, while Saxo Bank-Tinkoff's Alberto Contador lurks four seconds behind the Olympic bronze medallist in third.
Clarke recorded his first professional win by out-sprinting Tony Martin on the closing strait after the pair had broken away from the peloton.
