German rider Lisa Brennauer won the elite women's time trial at the World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain this afternoon.
The 26-year-old recorded a time of 38 minutes and 48 seconds around the 29.5km course, beating Ukraine's Anna Solovey by eight seconds.
Brennauer had trailed Solovey at the second intermediate time split, but produced a superb attack over the last eight kilometres to take victory.
"I had a really good day. The race was very long but I gave it my all on the climb. It's overwhelming. I can't believe it right now," Brennauer told reporters.
Defending champion Ellen van Dijk finished seventh, a minute and 11 seconds behind Brennauer.
