Mark Cavendish has backed Bradley Wiggins to pick up this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
The ex-Team Sky rider said that he is "proud" of his former teammate, who won this year's Tour de France title and picked up gold at London 2012.
"I am so proud of Brad," The Mirror quotes Cavendish as saying. "It was an honour for me to ride the Tour de France and see a friend, almost a brother, win the yellow jersey.
"That's something no British rider and no British team has ever done. It was a privilege not just to see it but to be part of it.
"The yellow jersey is the most iconic symbol in cycling, everybody knows that. Brad not only won it, we as a team were able to control the peleton for three weeks."
Wiggins has been widely tipped to succeed Cavendish as Sports Personality of the Year when 2012's winner is announced on Sunday.
