Sir Chris Hoy has won the keirin event at the national track championships in Manchester.
The triple Olympic champion of 2008 was behind on the final lap but just managed to claw ahead at the line.
"They made me work hard for it, with a lap to go I was fourth or fifth and I went the long way on the outside," said the 35-year-old.
"It is world-class competition here. To beat these guys and to start the season the way I hope to continue, it's a great feeling.
"I've really kept my head down and put the work in, I just want to feel coming into the Olympics there is nothing I would change."
The 2012 Games begin in London on July, 27 2012.
