Cannondale's Peter Sagan has withdrawn from the Vuelta a Espana, race organisers have confirmed.
The 24-year-old did not even start Saturday's 200.8km 14th stage from Santander to La Camperona.
The Slovenian rider has been an anonymous figure during this year's Vuelta, languishing down in 161st place in the general classification and being dominated in the sprint by John Degenkolb and Nacer Bouhanni.
Danish World Tour team Tinkoff-Saxo confirmed the signing of Sagan on a three-year contract last month.
