Sir Chris Hoy rules out Rio 2016

Sir Chris Hoy admits that the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio are out of the question for him.

Cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy has conceded that there is no chance of him competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

The six-time Olympic gold medallist insists that he will not go back on his decision to end his illustrious career after the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

"I'm definitely not going to Rio." he told the Daily Mail. "It is 100% ruled out. Nothing will top London. And four years is too much to ask.

"We're not talking about a sport like equestrianism where you can go on to an older age."

Hoy went on to reaffirm his ambitions to feature at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, saying that he would relish the opportunity to take part in a competitive event in his home nation.

"I think the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow would be a nice way to end it. That's only two years away and I have never competed seriously in Scotland," he added.

"If it was anywhere else in the world I wouldn't even think about it. I am not expecting to be there but if I can be there, it would be great."

Earlier this year, Hoy was given the freedom of his home city Edinburgh in recognition of his Olympic achievements.
