British cyclist Jonathan Tiernan-Locke has been forced to pull out of today's Road World Championships after becoming the subject of an inquiry by the International Cycling Union.
The Team Sky rider, who was due to be a part of Britain's eight-man team for Sunday's road race, has been notified of a possible discrepancy in his "biological passport data" by the UCI.
According to The Times, the 2013 Tour of Britain winner has been asked by the sport's governing body to explain suspect blood values.
Team Sky have withdrawn Tiernan-Locke from racing "whilst his response to the UCI is prepared", but they understand that "any anomaly is in readings taken before he joined the team".
Tiernan-Locke tweeted: "Sorry I had to withdraw, don't have the form to help the lads."
Chris Froome will be going for gold for Britain in today's race, which begins at around 9.00am.
