Bradley Wiggins believes that he would not have achieved all of his 2012 success without the backing of Team Sky.

Bradley Wiggins has insisted that he a lot of his success in 2012 has been down to the backing from Team Sky.

The 32-year-old became the first Briton to win the Tour de France in July, before he won gold in the time trial event at London 2012, and Wiggins believes that Team Sky have played a pivotal part in his success over the past 12 months.

Wiggins told Sky Sports News: "We have been really fortunate over the past four years to have had incredible backing from Team Sky.

"Without a company the size of Sky behind us, I don't think we would have achieved half of what we have done.

"It has allowed us to be the best team in the world. We have had the best riders, the best backup, and all the support back at British cycling has enabled us to become the best team in the world."

Wiggins won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award on Sunday night.
