Neil Fachie: '2014 better than 2012'

Team Scotland cyclist Neil Fachie believes that 2014 has been a better year for him than the Paralympic gold-winning year of 2012.

Team Scotland para-cyclist Neil Fachie has expressed his belief that this year has been a better one for him than 2012.

Fachie was crowned Paralympic champion in the London Games two years ago, and added another gold medal to his honours list today with victory in the 1,000m time trial B tandem.

Despite the success in London, Fachie believes that triumphing in his home country makes it even more special and ranks the year as a whole above that of 2012.

"London was phenomenal. Obviously the crowd there was slightly bigger, but I'd say the noise levels were just as loud here. If it hadn't been for that crowd cheering us on then I'm not sure we would have made it round," he told reporters.

"We were going so slow anyway at the end, we were hurting badly, but the crowd kept us going so I can't thank them enough for what they did. I'd say in terms of the whole year, going to the World Championships and winning the Euros, this is probably a better year than 2012, which was a phenomenal year too.

"Hopefully we can top it off by winning tomorrow as well in the sprint. We'll see what happens, but it's been special for sure."

Fachie won gold alongside pilot Craig MacLean in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome today.
