Team Scotland's Neil Fachie has played down the level of expectation on his shoulders going into the 1,000m time trial B tandem today.

Fachie and pilot Craig MacLean rode to the gold medal in front of a home crowd at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the process.

Having gone into the event as reigning Paralympic champion, Fachie was expected to once again claim the top prize, but he insists that the main pressure came from himself.

"I think most of the expectation we had was what we put on ourselves. The nice thing about being in the Athletes' Village is that you don't really know what's going on around you," he told reporters.

"I heard my name mentioned once during the opening ceremony, but otherwise watching on TV I haven't really heard a lot. I expected to win for myself, and we've had pressure before and succeeded so I knew that we could do it."

Fachie and MacLean will take part in the sprint tomorrow night.
