Scotland cyclist Neil Fachie breaks his own Commonwealth Games record to claim gold in the men's B&VI 1000m time trial final at the Anna Meares Velodrome.

Scotland's Neil Fachie has broken his own Commonwealth Games record to claim gold in the men's B&VI 1000m time trial final this evening.

Fachie was forced to overcome stiff competition from Wales cyclist James Ball and Australian Brad Henderson, both of whom broke his own Games record prior to his gold medal-winning ride.

The 34-year-old - led by pilot Matt Rotherham - crossed the line in a time of 1:00.065, shaving more than two seconds off the previous record he set in Glasgow four years ago.

The title adds to the two golds Fachie won in Glasgow, and the Scot will now look to add another to his growing collection when he takes part in the sprint event on Saturday.

Ball and his pilot Peter Mitchell may have thought that they had done enough when they came home in a time of 1:00.900, but the duo were pipped to the top of the podium by their fellow Brits.

Home favourite Henderson and pilot Tom Clarke clocked a time of 1:01.512, earning him the bronze medal ahead of Malaysia's Muhammad Afiq Afify Rizan and Frederick Assor of Ghana.
